Description
Enamelled green bowl or dish with copper heart and colourful spots. The bowl is about 9.6cm diameter and 1cm tall. I made this bowl starting with sheet copper, out of which I cut a circle. I shaped the circle into a bowl and then enamelled it using vitreous enamel and a kiln. The main colour is green – I’d say the shade is a mid to slightly darker shade, close to British racing green or bottle green. I made a heart shape out of square copper wire, which I added to the bowl on one firing. On the last firing, I added millefiori pieces to the heart. The millefiori pieces are a little raised. To finish the bowl, I filed the rim and heart back to bright copper because I like the contrast. The exposed copper is protected with lacquer.
This is a decorative dish so please don’t put it in the dishwasher because the enamel could chip or crack (I use vitreous enamel, which is effectively glass). The back of the bowl is enamelled in green too and shows slight marks from how the bowl is held when it is in the kiln. I’ve signed the back and included the bowl’s unique id number. Enamelling the back reduces how much the copper warps in the kiln, thought it has still twisted a little. I’ve signed the back.
This enamelled green bowl is unique, I cannot reproduce the effect.
