Description
Enamelled copper blackbird silhouette wall hanging, mounted in a wood-effect frame with watercolour background. The blackbird is sitting on a branch. I cut the blackbird out of sheet copper, then enamelled it in black vitreous enamel. I also painted the watercolour background, which helps to blackbird stand out. The watercolour is a graduated pinky, orangey colour, a bit like a sunset.
The frame is 25cm by 30cm and a pale oak colour. There is no glass in the frame because the blackbird is not completely flat (and doesn’t need glass protection). In the kiln, copper can sag a little on the stand, so my enamelled pieces are not flat. The sagging gives a slightly 3D effect which I like.
