Description
Enamelled teal, blue or turquoise bowl with colourful spots. The bowl is about 10cm diameter and 1cm tall. I started by cutting a circle out of copper sheet. I hammered this into a shallow dish or bowl. Once I’d got the shape, I enamelled it using vitreous enamel and a kiln. The main colour is called teal – to me, it’s a blue/turquoise shade, but people don’t all see green and blue the same so the colour is a bit subjective. For the final firing, I added small coloured glass pieces and fired the bowl for longer. Firing for longer (overfiring) gives a darker rim and dark spots. I like the effect of overfiring.
This is a decorative dish so please don’t put it in the dishwasher because the enamel could chip or crack (I use vitreous enamel, which is effectively glass). The back of the bowl is enamelled in teal and may show some marks from how the bowl is held when it is in the kiln. Enamelling the back reduces how much the copper warps in the kiln. I’ve signed the back.
This enamelled teal bowl is unique, I cannot reproduce the effect.
