Description
Handmade copper flower, based on a dahlia. I made this flower by cutting layers of petals, the sepal and the leaves from sheet copper. The leaves and sepal were then textured to give veins. The next step was to join the leaves, petals and sepal to a copper wire stem by brazing. The flower was then pickled clean and lacquered before adding a wooden base. The wooden base is reclaimed wood, stained a dark oak colour.
Although the flower has been lacquered there is a chance that it can still go darker with time, especially in damp environments.
The dahlia copper flower is about 16cm tall. It also looks a bit like a peony.
Brazing can leave marks and on this flower brazing has given a slightly lumpy effect on the inner petals, plus a silvery mark on the stem near the leaves.
